Discussion:
Recommended USB CF Card Reader for NetBSD?

Hi,

I'm using NetBSD-Current on a i386 box. I have two digital cameras :
Nikon Coolpix 5700 and Canon S10. The S10 is recognized out of the
box and i'm able to download images from it to my pc using gphoto2 or
s10sh. Unfortunately, the Nikon is not.

I'm considering to add a USB CF Card Reader to tranfer images on my
box. I know the Sandisk SDDR-31 model works fine with NetBSD
(http://www.bsdtoday.com/2002/February/Features638.html) but,
unfortunately, this model is discontinued and not easy to find in
France, even with Ebay.

Is there others Sandisk models (or from other brands) known to work ?

Any experience appreciated...

Don't get this one (yet)!

umass0: Genesys Logic, Inc. USB Storage Device, rev
1.10/1.13, addr 2

Mine is labeled as a PNY, but I believe it is pretty
generic and other companies badge it as their own as
well. Works fine under Winders, but haven't tried
Linux yet... I believe Jason was working on this if I
recall correctly. Or he responded to some notes about
it anyway. Here's the rest of the story:

umass0 at uhub0 port 1 configuration 1 interface 0
umass0: Genesys Logic, Inc. USB Storage Device, rev
1.10/1.13, addr 2
umass0: using SCSI over BBB-P
scsibus1 at umass0: 2 targets, 1 luns per target
scsibus1: waiting 2 seconds for devices to settle...
umass0: BBB reset failed, IOERROR
umass0: BBB bulk-in clear stall failed, IOERROR
umass0: BBB bulk-out clear stall failed, IOERROR
umass0: BBB reset failed, IOERROR
umass0: BBB bulk-in clear stall failed, IOERROR
umass0: BBB bulk-out clear stall failed, IOERROR
umass0: BBB reset failed, IOERROR
umass0: BBB bulk-in clear stall failed, IOERROR
umass0: BBB bulk-out clear stall failed, IOERROR
umass0: BBB reset failed, IOERROR
umass0: BBB bulk-in clear stall failed, IOERROR
umass0: BBB bulk-out clear stall failed, IOERROR
umass0: BBB reset failed, IOERROR
umass0: BBB bulk-in clear stall failed, IOERROR
umass0: BBB bulk-out clear stall failed, IOERROR

If you get this every time you boot with the device
connected, or connect the device after boot, you know
you have this one!

Andy

Hi,
I just got a Memorex CompactFlash, Multimedia and SD card reader and it seems to work just fine

umass0 at uhub0 port 2 configuration 1 interface 0
umass0: DataFab USB CF+SD, rev 1.10/1.03, addr 2
umass0: using SCSI over Bulk-Only
scsibus0 at umass0: 2 targets, 2 luns per target
scsibus0: waiting 2 seconds for devices to settle...
sd0 at scsibus0 target 1 lun 0: <, , > SCSI0 0/direct fixed
sd0: mode sense (4) returned nonsense; using fictitious geometry
sd0: 62976 KB, 61 cyl, 64 head, 32 sec, 512 bytes/sect x 125952 sectors
sd0: mode sense (4) returned nonsense; using fictitious geometry
sd0: no disk label

I just mount it to a directory and off I go. I does seem to be quite slow compared to when I use it from windows. I am sure pleanty of other cards work as long as they support the protocols of the umass driver (man umass will list them).

Regards,
Willy B^)

Do you mind posting more details on this? What model
number of reader? What level of NetBSD?

Thanks.

Hi,
The part number is 331057 you can have a look at it on www.memorexlive.com. At the moment I am using NetBSD 1.6F but I have used it with earlier versions at least 1.6D.
